School

At my daughters school, the children can receive class awards, playground awards, sporting awards and if they collect 5 , they can earn a merit award. Earn 5 merit awards they get a bigger award and then so many of those can lead to a book award where they receive a book voucher.

Last year she worked very hard and received herself a book award. This year she has not received one award of any kind.

She is the kind of child who works better when recognised for it.

At a recent work dinner at the directors house, she started crying when she saw how many awards her son had from the same teacher.

I went to see the teacher and explained how she really works better when recieving these class awards and feels better. I said I didn't expect him just to give her one but maybe she was being overlooked??

He replied that he doesn't believe in the awards and rarely hands them out!!

The school encourages the children to aspire to the book award level but how can they when the teacher doesn't participate??

I shall wait and see what happens over the next few weeks and if nothing seemingly is being encouraged, I may have to see the Principle.

The teacher does hand out lots of stickers and lollies which is good but I guess it is hard for some children not recieve any awards at all while the rest of the school seemingly does!

Stickers and lollies just don`t cut it....When Daniel receives his awards i`ve made up a folder for him so he`ll have them to look back on....

Actually i`m surprised they are allowed to give out lollies....

Good Morning lil harry,
I look back on the dealings with school and my children with horror....I do not think some teachers realize the little things they do have such a huge impact on young children. It is good that you re in there batting for your children as many do not. Kind regards, Elizabeth

hi all..yes.. I am surprised they are still handing out lollies? that one can keep for now..

and Yes teachers do need to be careful of what they say and do as children are looking up to them all the time and it really does have a huge impact on them..

she had a relief teacher from England a while ago who said that the kids in Briton were better then Aussie kids at their age.. the whole class revolted against her and she didn't know why?? not to mention all the parents that romped up the next day!!

Hello lil Harry,
Would be good if everyone got a reward through out the year so at the end of the year each child had receive one....I am surprised at giving out lollies, especially these days.
Take care,
Margaret

Hi 'LHArry,
I too am a little surprised at the lollies part. Perhaps you can reward yourself. Guy or make her a blue ribon ad on it write "I am special" or " Who you are does make a difference" or "well Done"....or whatever. You reward her for her acheivements.
All children and adults respond to positive attitudes and rewards, whether it is a piece of paper or a thank you.
Hugs and rainbows
